Good afternoon loves!! Here are a few things I found for September 2nd!!
Today in 44 BCE Cleopatra declared her son Caesarion to be her co-ruler in Egypt at the age of three. Cleopatra claimed that Caesarion was the son of Julius Caesar from her affair with him, but Caesar never officially claimed him as a son, although he was allowed to use his name, even while spending some of his early years in Rome.
And in bad news for the Ptolemaic dynasty, today marks the anniversary of the Battle of Actium. Cleopatra and Mark Antony’s forces were decisively beaten by the adopted son of Caesar, Octavian.
And today was the wedding anniversary of Emperor Meiji of Japan and Empress Shoken. They were married in 1867 until his death in 1912 and hers in 1914.
In birthdays we have:
Marie-Josephine of Savoy, Queen consort of France as the wife of Louis XVIII, born in 1753, Louis Bonaparte, King of Holland, brother of Napoleon I and father to Napoleon III, born in 1778, and Queen Liliuokalani of Hawaii, last monarch and only Queen regnant of Hawaii, was born in 1838 today. Also, today marks the birthday of Archduchess Marie Elisabeth of Austria in 1883. She was the only daughter of the suicidal Crown Prince Rudolf of Austria. Later in life she joined the Austrian Social Democratic Party, and became known as “The Red Archduchess”.
Have an awesome long weekend to the Americans, and Happy Father’s Day to the Aussies and Kiwi’s!!! 🙂
