Here are a couple things for September 9th!!
In 1513 today, the Battle of Flodden Field occured between Scotland and England, in what is now Northern England. Henry VIII was king and away fighting in France, his first wife, Catherine of Aragon was regent. The battle was a victory for the English, with the Scottish King, James IV dying on the battlefield. James also happened to be married to Henry’s sister, Margaret. The 17 month old James V of Scotland would assume the throne.
And in 1543 today, James V’s daughter, Mary, would be crowned Queen of Scots, at 9 months old.
In birthdays of the not-so-dead royalty, today in 2000, Victoria Federica de Marichalar y Borbon, granddaughter to King Juan Carlos I of Spain was born. She is sixth in line to the crown of Spain.
One major death to mention today, in 1087, the mighty William I or William the Conqueror, first Norman King of England, died after a fall from his horse, while visiting his lands in France. He was succeeded in England by his son, William II or William Rufus, as he was called.
Have an awesome Sunday guys!!
