Evening all! Here is what I’ve found for today!
In 1356 today, the Battle of Poitiers commenced and would be one of the most well known of English victories in the Hundred Years War. The French King, John II, would actually be captured and die 8 years later in English custody.
And in not-so-dead royalty, King Carl XVI Gustaf was invested as King of Sweden in 1973 today.
Today in 1589 marks the birthday of Henry III of France. Henry was the third son of Henry II and Catherine de Medici. He was at one time the ruler of Poland and Lithuania and suitor for Elizabeth I of England.
And in 1803 today, Maria Anna of Savoy, wife of Emperor Ferdinand I of Austria was born in Rome.
No major deaths for today! Have a great one!
