Today in 1761, the coronation of King George III and his wife, Queen Charlotte occured in London. George was succeeding his grandfather, George II and would be the longest reigning monarch of England at the time, until his granddaughter, Victoria, broke his record on this day in 1896.
Our first birthday today, belongs to Anne of Cleves, in 1515. Anne was the fourth wife of Henry VIII of England. Their marriage was annulled just six months after it began. Because Anne agreed to the annullment, she was treated kindly by Henry and given several estates and homes, a pension, a place at court, and she was a friend to his daughters until her death.
And in 1601, Queen Anne of France and Navarre, wife of Louis VIII and mother to Louis XIV was born in Spain. This Anne spent time as regent when her husband died, as their son was crowned King of France at age 4.
No major deaths to report today! Have a great one!!
