Today in 1645, the Battle of Rowton Heath took place in England. It was part of the First Civil War and the Royalist Army was commanded by Charles I himself. Poor Chuck would be disappointed though as the Parliamentarians scored a major victory.
Our first birthday belongs to Catherin of Saxe-Lauenburg, Queen of Sweden in 1513. Sadly she would pass away at age 22 after falling while dancing and having a miscarriage.
No other major birthdays today, but a few deaths. The first takes us back to 768, when Pepin III, King of the Franks dies, leaving his son, Charlemagne as King.
Today in 1213, Gertrude of Merania, Queen of Hungary was murdered by jealous courtiers. Her death would be avenged many years later, when her son, Bela IV became king. Her daughter is also well known, as Saint Elisabeth of Hungary.
In 1435, Isabeau of Bavaria, Queen of France died in English controlled territory. She had been regent for her husband, Charles VI of France during his bouts of mental illness. Her children would go on to be Charles VII of France, and two of her daughters would be Queens of England.
And lastly, we have the death of Princess Victoria of Hesse and by Rhine in 1950. Victoria was the grand daughter of Queen Victoria and his the maternal grandmother of the current Prince Consort, Prince Phillip, Duke of Edinburgh.
Have an awesome day!
