1952 – King George VI is interred at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle. He was the father of the current Queen Elizabeth II.
1710 – The future Louis XV of France is born in Versailles. His father was the Dauphin Louis, son to the indomitable Sun King, Louis XIV. He was five years old when he succeeded his grandfather, and would rule under a regency until 1723. He has a mixed legacy, some saying he laid the groundwork for the Revolution, while others said he left the country sound, and the mismanagement of his grandson, Louis XVI, is what caused the Revolt.
1637 – Holy Roman Emperor Ferdinand II dies in Vienna. The Thirty Years War occurred under his reign, and, less a couple victories, the war went badly for the Empire and the Catholics. He would leave his son, Ferdinand III to finish the war.
Have a great day!
